Health & Well-Being
MacIntyre is committed to supporting individuals to be aware of their health needs and access appropriate services to have the best health possible.
MacIntyre employs a specialist manager to provide guidance on the health and wellbeing of people supported by MacIntyre.
This includes
- advising the management team on current issues and emerging themes both within the organization and at a National perspective
- implementing and monitoring Macintyre's Health and Wellbeing Strategy
- developing, implementing and monitoring a staff learning program
- to advise staff on health issues through informal consultation, mentoring and coaching
- support for people using MacIntyre's services to have a healthy lifestyle, deal with their own health concerns and access appropriate services to meet their health needs
Person Centred Health Action Plans
MacIntyre firmly believes that a person's Health Action Plan is an integral aspect of their person centred plan. We have developed a framework to support people using Macintyre's services and staff to look at all areas of their health. We have two aspects to the Health Action Plan. The first is to provide information on their health, the support they need to be healthy and goals to improve or maintain their health. The second aspect is about their health history and any information on family history.
The exact content and format of the person's health action plan is entirely personal and reflects their communication needs.
New Project! - To support people to look after and take their own medication
We believe that whenever possible people we support should take responsibility for their own medicines.
We held a one day workshop to begin to develop self assessment and learning material to support people to take responsibility for their medication.
The workshop was attended by people who have experience of taking their own medication, people who are interested in being able to do this and staff who support people to take their own medication.
From this one day workshop we are in the process of developing the material which will be piloted by the group, before a final version is made available. This will hopefully be available in March 2009.
