It’s 2016 and we are celebrating our Golden Jubilee – MacIntyre is 50 years old.
To mark this anniversary we commissioned award-winning photographer Polly Braden to capture the interactions, achievements and milestones of people we support.
Polly says “The aim is simple: to challenge outdated, institutionalised images and improve public awareness by recognising and highlighting the everyday interactions and life changing experience of people with a learning disability.
This body of work has been turned into a beautiful, but also influential book by the renowned photo book publisher Dewi Lewis and a selection of prints from the book were recently exhibited at the National Media Museum in Bradford.
The book, “Great Interactions, Life with Learning Disabilities and Autism” is on sale from the publisher, Dewi Lewis at www.dewilewis.com/products/great-interactions. All profits from the sale of this book will be donated to MacIntyre.
It is hoped these photos and the stories of the people captured will demonstrate that people with a learning disability can have the same opportunities as anyone else in life.
