My Way is an innovative service that supports young people to make the transition from school to their new adult life. My Way focuses on self-directed support.
Self-directed support is the general term used to describe people having greater control over the support they receive. It enables people who need support to design and be in control of their support arrangements.
More about My Way
My Way has been supporting young people in MacIntyre’s two schools to prepare for their transition. My Way facilitators work closely with the young person as well as their family, friends, Circle of Support, Teachers and Support Staff and various external organisations to gather information, create a transition plan and then, most importantly, put the plan into action.
Some people have chosen to use individualised funding to pay for their support. My Way has supported these people to organise this.
My Way can offer to:
• Work with Local Authorities to establish an individual budget (a sum of money) that a person can use to spend on the support they need
• Design a plan with the person, their family and friends that describes the support they need to live the life they choose
• Plan how to manage the individual budget and work with the person, using their plan, to arrange the support they need
