An Illustrious honour for Wingrave
Date: 05 Jan 2010
On Friday 11 December the HMS Illustrious was visited by two charities that it has supported over the last six months, one of which being MacIntyre, and in particular Wingrave School. The ship had raised £1500 for each of its charities.
Students from the MacIntyre School, were given a tour of the ship, and demonstrations of some of the weapon systems and fire-fighting procedures. Shortly afterwards they were also able to try out the hoses and breathing apparatus for themselves.
School Principal Dave Miller stated “The visit to HMS Illustrious was a truly memorable occasion for our students and I would like to thank everyone involved for such a fascinating experience. I know we got only a tiny introduction to the work they do but, nevertheless, it was most impressive and inspiring”.
Medical Assistant Jim Furphy, whose step son attends Wingrave commented, “It was great to be able to host our charities onboard and we have been glad that the Ship chose to support them over the last six months”.
