Warrington Learning Centre win national award
Date: 06 Jul 2009
The B&Q One Planet Living Awards supports their progressive new partnership with sustainability experts BioRegional, which aims to help us reduce our ecological footprint and to help their customers do the same.
We are very pleased and proud to announce that MacIntyre's Warrington Learning Centre have won the 40th Birthday One Planet Award for £5,000 of goods from the store in order to assist them to build a Healing Garden on the centres horticulture site.
Head of Service for the learning centre, Marje Caine explains;
"When I did the bid I thought it was regional, had I known it was national I wouldn't have done it. There was one prize for £10,000, four for £5,000 and 35 for £2,000. The staff at the store in Warrington are as excited as we are, it was John, their Horticulture Manager, who persuaded us to go for it. He's got the regional manager involved, and a team from the store to volunteer. He's taken on the role of project manager (perhaps he felt this a necessity when he realised we hadn't included sand and cement on the shopping list).
We are going to have a very busy summer, it is a big project but the help B&Q are giving us will ensure its success. Their support is so very overwhelming. We just can't believe they are doing so much and most important is how much the project will benefit everyone and the work our learners do in their horticulture sessions will be recognised in the community."
The garden is scheduled for completion on 25 September 2009 and we look forward to seeing its progress as work forges ahead.
