Wingrave School forges international bonds

Date: 07 Oct 2009

MacIntyre’s experience in delivering services to people with autistic spectrum disorder has led to our school in Wingrave, Buckinghamshire forming ties with a college in the Greek Islands.

During the school summer break in August, Wingrave Learning Support Assistant Mike Glynn visited Lefkadha, near the coast of northern Greece in the Ionian Sea. While there, Mike was introduced to Andreas Mavromatis, the principal and owner of Morfosi College - an IT college for school leavers and sixth form pupils set in the main town on the island.

Andreas had enrolled some students with autism in the autumn term and showed a great interest in MacIntyre's experience in providing training and facilities. Having looked at our website, he was very impressed, stating "You are doing very good work at MacIntyre, we need that kind of thing at Morfosi"

Mike was invited to the college where he met students and experienced the learning approach for special needs students in Greece. As a result, an e-newsletter with regular monthly updates is being established that will mean MacIntyre's Wingrave School students can swap news and happenings with the students at Morfosi College.

Relationships continue to grow between the school and the college and we look forward to seeing how the innovative use of IT between them both helps to strengthen this new found international friendship.
