'My Way' is an innovative service developed by MacIntyre, following research on the national problem of transition that children from special schools face when moving from children to adult services.
Our intention is to create a new service which will support young people with learning disabilities to ‘take control’ of their lives by making use of self directed funding.
We are currently liaising with Local Authorities to pilot ‘My Way’ with students from one of our two special schools.
What we have found to date is that there is a great need for this style of planning and also, that it can be used for anybody - not just those in schools.
We welcome the opportunity to meet with Local Authorities to discuss extending the pilot further.
'Taking Control' with Direct Payments
The Taking Control Project provides people with a learning disability with information about direct payments and also supports people to manage a direct payment. The project helps people to recruit personal assistants, set up circles of support and offers training to advocates and volunteers. The Project started in December 2004 and is a partnership between MacIntyre, Warrington Advocacy and Warrington Social Services. More about Taking Control.
Following on from the success of the Taking Control Project and the production of accessible direct payments information pack, MacIntyre has been successful in securing LDDF (Learning Disability Development Fund) funding in Warrington to run a follow on direct payments project called 'Getting it Right!'
This follow-on project will run for 12 months and will focus on filling the gaps (in direct payment support) that have been identified through the work done on the Taking Control Project. This new project is being run by Pete Crane.
You can also now download 'DIRECT PAYMENTS' How It Adds Up!', a publication produced by Sui-Ling Tang and Donald Delmohamed on their experiences of Direct Payments.
