Today is International Epilepsy Awareness Day, an annual event celebrated across the world in more than 120 countries.
MacIntyre supports over 130 adults who have a diagnosis of epilepsy. For some, their epilepsy is well managed and has a minimal impact on their quality of life; for other people we support, their epilepsy is described as complex and they have additional health needs, all of which has a significant impact on their day to day life. We strive to support people to live well with epilepsy and to minimise the risks associated with having seizures. Every person with epilepsy, has an Individual Health Plan for Epilepsy and a detailed Risk Assessment, completed with the person’s circle of support to ensure all information is considered. We support people to achieve a balance between making their life safer, having choices and making informed decisions. We actively support everyone who has epilepsy to access the appropriate health care. Staff keep clear records about the persons’ seizures so seizures are monitored and effective treatment can de offered
With so many people touched by epilepsy every day – with current estimates being approximately 50 million people around the world living with epilepsy, it is estimated that 1 in 100 people have epilepsy.
