Health and Safety

At MacIntyre we are committed to achieving excellence with our health and safety practices.

We see health and safety in a positive light and we do our utmost to enable people with learning disabilities to live a meaningful life and to achieve their hopes and dreams. These goals can only be achieved if we keep people safe, healthy and fulfilled.

Training and accreditation

Our staff our dedicated and committed to our health and safety practices; without them, we would not be able to provide our industry-leading care and support for people with learning disabilities.

All of our Area Managers have passed an intense IOSH Managing Safely course and exam and have received investigations and audit training. Additionally, all of our staff are given a Health and Safety manual, which provides guidance in a simple and ‘no jargon’ way and is compliant with the highly acclaimed international specification for health and safety management systems, OHSAS 18001.

We also opened our doors to the British Standards Institution (BSi) in 2004 to carry out independent and rigorous audits of our services. We were extremely proud to be the first charity supporting people with learning disabilities to achieve certification by BSi for compliance with OHSAS 18001.

Family involvement

Our approach at MacIntyre includes involving families in everything we do, which includes health and safety.

Reporting to our Trustees

We report to our Trustees Audit Committee with a sophisticated approach to identifying strengths and weaknesses so that health and safety objectives can be set and implemented. This process has resulted in better compliance, improved training and fewer injuries; from objective setting to risk assessments, training, thorough incident investigations and internal and external audits, all of these systems help us to maintain high standards of health and safety.
