Dementia Special Interest Group

MacIntyre set up a Dementia Special Interest Group in 2011 to respond to the challenge posed by the changing needs of an ageing population.

The Dementia Special Interest Group brings together staff from across the organisation who are supporting people with dementia or are at risk of developing dementia to share best practice and provide peer support.

The work of the group has included:

  • Creating Hot Tips Booklets on “Supporting People with a Learning Disability and Dementia”, “Eating and Drinking” and “Activities for People with a Learning Disability and Dementia”.
  • Creating an accessible document to support people with a learning disability to understand what dementia is and how they or their friends may be affected.
  • Creating a training pack which uses Person Centred Planning Tools to enable staff to reflect on their learning and provide support tailored to the needs of people living with or at risk of developing dementia.
