MacIntyre School had its OfSTEd Education inspection 13-15 June 2017 and was judged to be Good in all areas except Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare which was judged to be Outstanding, meaning that the overall judgement was Good.
This inspection was aligned with the inspection of the on-site residential provision, which has also received a provisional judgement of Good; we await the final report.
Our Residential Provision comprises seven modern houses within the school campus adjacent to the heart of the village of Wingrave. We have a further house, Hillside, in Leighton Buzzard which is beautifully appointed with a large garden and en-suite facilities.
Each house accommodates up to six students in their own single-occupancy room, decorated and equipped to their individual tastes.
Residential staff teams are led by experienced Heads of Service. Each student has a Linkworker who is primarily responsible for maintaining excellent communication with families and who liaises with the education team to ensure continuity. A team of Waking Night Staff ensures full support is available for our young people throughout the night.
The residential and educational departments work closely together to ensure continuity in the following:
- Core areas of learning
- Consistency of approach
- Positive interactions and a positive environment
- Person centred support plans and profiles
Teachers, Heads of Service, Linkworkers, Therapists and our Extended Curriculum Coordinator jointly develop Individual Learning Plans which are reviewed termly.
Continuity of support
On a daily basis, members of the residential staff team support students during the school day. This ensures opportunities for continued learning and skill development at all times of day. Meals are healthy and menus are planned to incorporate any specific dietary requirements. Students are encouraged to help plan, shop for and cook meals.
