7. The final days

Previous film: General advice for managers

The final days of a person’s life will always be difficult for everyone involved. It is important to have plans in place, which take into account the person’s wishes, and that all staff are fully informed of any changes that happen along the way.

In this film, Sarah reflects on the different ways that people coped with Alison’s final days, and the need for Sarah to advocate for Alison’s environment to be as comfortable and homely as possibly, surrounded by her favourite things and loved ones.

However, as this final part of the series explores, the lesson learned was to expect the unexpected, and that although having plans in place is essential, the need to be flexible and to adapt to the current situation is just as important.
