6. General advice for Registered Managers

Previous film: Impact on relationships

Next film: The final days

When supporting someone with a learning disability who is on the pathway of being given a diagnosis of dementia, persistence is key. Whilst the link between learning disability and dementia is being increasingly understood, and the resources and advice available are growing to match this, there is still a long way to go for the process to be made as seamless as possible for everyone involved.

In the sixth part of this series uncovering the perspective of a Registered Manager supporting someone with a learning disability and dementia, Sarah gives general advice for those in the same situation. At the heart of this is always keeping the approach person centred, rather than service-centred and staying true to the wishes of the person involved.
