We are thrilled to announce that we will be managing the Shared Lives scheme in Central Bedfordshire, having successfully bid to provide the service for Central Bedfordshire Council.
Shared Lives Carers provide support, friendship and a home for an adult with a learning disability. The Shared Lives scheme is different to traditional care options as the person visits or stays at the carer’s home, spending time as part of their family and in their local communities. This could be on a long-term basis where the person lives with them full time or for a couple of nights a month to give them a break from their family.
Tina Murray, Area Manager of the MacIntyre Shared Lives scheme in Central Bedfordshire said:
“Shared Lives is a very individualised form of support that is mutually beneficial to the person and the carer and brings tremendous results. We match people with similar interests and circumstances and it’s all about the importance of family and community life; the exciting and even mundane elements can make people feel part of something.”
Councillor Hegley of Central Bedfordshire Council said:
“Shared Lives services help ensure that vulnerable people can get their care and support in a nurturing and natural family setting – and this can make so much difference to their quality of life. I am so pleased for our residents that we have secured this fantastic service.”
We are seeking prospective Shared Lives Carers who can offer support from their own homes and communities to adults with learning disabilities in Central Bedfordshire. Shared Lives Carers receive payment for the support they provide, receive training and have ongoing support of a Shared Lives worker who will visit regularly.
A Shared Lives Carer who supports two people in her home said:
“Being a Shared Lives Carer is a very rewarding experience, knowing that you are making a real difference to people’s lives. We were matched well and get on brilliantly with each other. I would recommend the scheme to anyone interested; I wish I signed up years ago.”
