I support Jean who is an older lady who is very sociable and loves chatting to anybody and everybody. She also takes great pride in her appearance. As Jean’s birthday this year was during the same week as MacIntyre’s 50th birthday ‘Tux and Tiara’ dinner celebration, I wanted to help make this an extra special day for her. Knowing that looking her best is important to Jean, I asked her if she would like to plan a trip to the shops to buy a new outfit for the event. We sat down together with some catalogues for inspiration and discussed what sort of colours and styles Jean might like to go for. Looking at the photographs helped Jean to get an idea of what she might like – she decided she would like something blue! A few weeks before the celebration we hit the shops around Chester in search of Jean’s perfect outfit. After trying on a couple of different dresses, Jean decided on a lovely blue and black number, which also happened to be a bit of a bargain. She was made up with her new dress and couldn’t wait to get home and show all her friends what she had bought.
On the day of the dinner Jean was very excited, I supported her to go and have her hair styled and nails painted at her favourite salon in the morning, before returning home to get ready. With her new dress, accessories and hair do, she looked a million dollars!
When we arrived at the venue Jean was over the moon as we walked down the red carpet and a photographer was snapping away. Everyone looked really smart, and all the effort Jean had put in was well worth it because she looked great, and seeing her so happy and proud made me feel great as well!
Supporting people to feel really good about themselves is what makes our jobs so special.
