Celebrating our volunteers

3 June 2026

In Volunteers’ Week 2026, we’re taking the opportunity to celebrate all the volunteers who give their time, skills and energy to MacIntyre.

Volunteers play an important role helping us support people. Whether sharing a hobby, teaching a new skill, supporting activities in their local community or helping to improve our environments, volunteers bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm and valuable connections.

Ways to volunteer with MacIntyre

Some volunteers share their individual skills and interests in people's homes or at learning centres. This might involve running craft activities, leading singing or music groups, supporting gardening projects, helping with sports and wellbeing activities, or simply spending time alongside people, building confidence and creating opportunities for new experiences.

We also welcome corporate volunteering groups, where teams from local businesses spend a day on practical projects that make a real difference to the places where people live and learn.

Recently, colleagues from Omron volunteered at our learning centre in Beanhill, Milton Keynes, helping to transform the outdoor space.

Reflecting on the day, the manager said:

They came down with a group of staff and spent the day helping sort the garden area out for the people we support. Lots of gardening, clearing bits back, tidying things up and just making the space feel nicer again really.

Tina said afterwards how lovely the whole group were on the day and how naturally they interacted with people. It didn't feel awkward or corporate if that makes sense, everyone just got stuck in and got on with it together.

The difference afterwards was really noticeable. The garden looked brighter, more usable and just generally more cared for. Little things like that do genuinely make a difference to the people we support day to day, especially going into the better weather.

I think what was nice as well was it didn't feel like a company just turning up to tick a volunteering box. They seemed to genuinely care and wanted to help.

The impact of volunteering is often seen in the small things: a new friendship, a shared interest, or a space made more welcoming. These moments help create stronger, more connected communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you to every volunteer who supports MacIntyre. Your time, kindness and commitment make a lasting difference.
