On Sunday 30 September, over 70 people took part in MacIntyre’s first ever Memories and Miles event. Held in Mowsbury Park, Bedfordshire, the event began with a warm-up organised by Elaine from ‘Zumba Bedford’, followed by a one-mile walk to celebrate loved ones with dementia.
Walkers were also thrilled to take part in several activities stationed around the route, which included an Easy Read table, a Memory Tree and a life-size cut-out of Usain Bolt, where people could learn where dementia can affect them.
The event looks set to raise a fantastic amount for the Bedfordshire MacIntyre Memory Café, which launched in July.
Sarah Ormston, MacIntyre’s Health Advisor and Dementia Project Manager said:
“It was great to see so many families, staff, people supported all come together. A mum said to me ‘this is the first race and medal my daughter has ever been able to take part in, so thank you’ - that for me made it all worthwhile.
Thanks to the Beds team for making it such a great event, to Jessie and the Fundraising team for making sure it all went so smoothly, and to Nicky and Jeff for being superstars as well! And to everyone that turned up. It was an amazing day.”
If you couldn’t make it to our Bedfordshire Memories and Miles event, we are also holding three other Memories and Miles events in Milton Keynes, Warrington and Chesterfield. It’s not too late to join the fun!
