Yesterday was a keenly-anticipated day in the MacIntyre calendar: our annual staff awards, made more special by being held in our 60th anniversary year.
Sixty years ago, our founders, Kenneth and Marjorie Newton Wright, wanted something radically different and better for children who have a learning disability: to be treated as if they have value and potential.
Those values run throughout MacIntyre today, as we support over 1400 children, young people and adults. And our founders are remembered in the name of our staff awards: The Marjorie Newton Wright Awards.
So we could not have been happier yesterday to welcome three generations of the Newton Wright family to the Awards ceremony. Ken and Marjorie’s daughters told us their memories of those early days, and shared their pride in their parents’ vision.
The family presented us with two framed photographs from the beginnings of MacIntyre, which we will treasure.
