Welcoming Andrew Moran

7 September 2020
News

We are delighted to welcome Andrew Moran to join our Senior Leadership Team over the coming months. Andrew has extended his current involvement with MacIntyre to take on executive responsibilities for both the MacIntyre Academies and our children services within the main organisation, in addition to overseeing the recruitment process for our new Director of Education.

Can you tell us about your previous experience?

Certainly. I’ve worked in the SEND sector for over 35 years, ever since I became a teacher. In 2001 I became the headteacher of a failing special school in Leicester. The journey out of special measures was certainly an exciting one, and I learned a great deal from it.

Following that, I was a headteacher, and then an executive head, for a major national charity. I have always enjoyed working in our sector, with children and young people who need that extra support, as well as with amazing staff who are committed to providing this support. It has been a rewarding experience.

Why MacIntyre?

For the last 5 years, I have been working as a consultant and have also had several interim senior leadership roles. Coincidentally, most of this work has been with charities that have their own schools. It was during this period that I first worked for MacIntyre. I was impressed by the organisation and the quality of the services provided. With this in mind, it was a privilege to be invited back last summer to work with Rachelle Russell and her colleagues.

What do you think you will bring to the role?

I hope to bring my experience to the role so that I can best support the services and colleagues that I will be working with. I have been asked to step into Rachelle’s shoes, temporarily, now that she is moving onto the next stage of her career. However, as I truly believe that we are all life-long learners, I do not doubt that I will continue to learn from those around me.

I am also excited at the prospect of helping to find and appoint Rachelle’s permanent successor. I am confident we will find someone exceptional to build on the amazing achievements that have taken place already.

I look forward to meeting and working with many of you over the next few months.
