From scent to shape

6 March 2026
Blog post

by Hannah Thorne, Deputy Manager

Planning for our 60th year celebrations we have been thinking about collaborations and we wanted to work with local businesses in Kennington and see if we could make something together.

A lot of people we support enjoy sensory experiences and smells. I know someone who runs a company making candles and aromatics. We reached out and asked if she would like to collaborate with us to make a candle. She sent some different samples and fragrances and I brought them in.

The people who draw on our support smelled them and rated them. The group voted for the raspberry scent, a fruity, vibrant and refreshing smell with a touch of sweetness. Then we thought about the shape.

The group came up with different ideas: a star, the letter M and a love heart. But in the end everyone voted for a puzzle piece because it made us think we are all different but we all fit together.

We gave Laney the scent and the shape and she created a prototype to see what we thought. We loved it! And she created some packaging and we chose that too.

The candles are for sale on Laney’s website with loads of other lovely things. Check them out!
