It’s not easy being green!

A group of people supported by MacIntyre have been volunteering to clean up the streets of Milton Keynes. The team, known as the 'Green Genies' have worked their magic on parks and natural areas, receiving plenty of praise from locals.

Not only do the team regularly clear up litter for Shenley Brook End Parish Council and the Canal and River Trust, but they have also tidied local hedgerows in support of local charities.

Most recently, the team have been part of history, by working alongside the Buckingham Canal Society and the Canal and River Trust on the restoration of the Buckingham Canal Arm. Although the canal is currently dormant, the team hope that in the future, the canal could be used once again as a result of hard work.

Buckingham Canal Society Group Leader Athina said:

“We worked on two tasks, the first around Bridge 2 where the group sorted and collected all the loose stone from the remains of the bridge. In the afternoon we moved closer to the A5 where a large bush type tree was blocking the towpath. The Green Genies have completely removed and cleared the tree from the towpath allowing access along the towpath. “

She added:

“This is the first time I had worked with this group and it proved to be a very enjoyable experience, with a lot of work achieved.”
