Staff at MacIntyre School have been delighted to observe the developing friendship between Jay and Steve since September. The friendship has been supported through shared learning activities particularly outdoors, such as going for walks together, kicking a ball about in the park and work experience including at Animal Antics, an animal assisted learning centre. Both boys also enjoy a bit of relaxation time together too, chilling in class using the therapy and peanut ball.
Jay has observed staff interactions with students, including Intensive Interactions, and through this being modelled around him in house and in school; he has developed and succeeded in having Great Interactions of his own. These interactions have transformed in to a mutual friendship with Steve saying Jay’s name and the pair of them looking at each other and looking out for each other. When Steve wants to greet Jay, he will place his hands on his shoulders. To this Jay will respond with eye contact and a smile.
