The National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards celebrate excellence in the support for people living with learning disabilities. The awards recognise individuals and teams who make a difference and provide quality care.
Following their successful judging day in May, the Dementia Project Team secured the ‘Team Award’, whilst the Haddons Staff Team from Milton Keynes were presented the ‘Supporting Older People With Learning Disabilities Award.’
Responding to the work of the Dementia Project Team, the judges said:
“Exceptional work mixing lived experience, sharing positively and helping to develop resources. The team are outstandingly fabulous and strive to make dementia something not to be scared of. They show so much enthusiasm even after personal loss. A wonderful demonstration of team working.”
The judges also described the team from the Haddons in Milton Keynes as showing:
“Creativity, determination and passion to develop and co-produce responsive support for people with learning disabilities as they age were at the heart of this team, who recognised that as we change - the support we need also changes.”
The MacIntyre Dementia Project team won the Outstanding Dementia Care Innovation award.
The judges chose the MacIntyre Dementia Project because they were impressed with the genuine, equal partnership and desire to benefit as many people as possible, without being protective or precious.
Will Black, Frontline Manager, won the Frontline Leaders award.
The judges were impressed at how Will leaded his team to great success over the past year through support and innovative care.
Tina Dutton, Shared Lives carer, won the Dementia Carer award.
The judges said:
“Tina is an inspirational and passionate person who has gone more than the extra mile to deliver high quality person centred care.”
The Haddons staff team from Milton Keynes won the Palliative Care/End of Life award.
The judges said:
“Hearing Sarah share Alison’s story is one which makes you feel inspired and grateful for people like her in the world. The determination, passion and commitment to keeping Alison at home was truly inspirational.”
Jess Brookes, Senior Support Worker, won the Frontline Leaders Award.
The judges noted how Jess is a dedicated individual who is passionate about delivering person centred care to assist their service users to achieve their goals.
MacIntyre Dementia Project team were finalists in the Making a Difference Category.
The category looked for a provider or person who has promoted inclusion and community cohesion through their work or role in the community to make a positive change happen in people’s lives.
Vicky Smith, Expert by Experience and MacIntyre Checker, was Highly Commended for Innovative Practice.
The Judges noted the positive impact she has on the lives of people supported by MacIntyre.
Tomm Collier, who was supported by MacIntyre No Limits and Vicky Grimmer, Programme Co-ordinator for MacIntyre No Limits, were Highly Commended for Outstanding Practice in Positive Behaviour Support.
The judges remarked how they were both examples of what good positive support is.
