Did you know people with a learning disability:
- are more at risk of developing dementia
- often present with symptoms aged under 65 years old (known as as 'young onset')
- can progress more rapidly through symptoms than within the general population
Join us for a two-part virtual workshop, in partnership with ARC England, co-designed and delivered by MacIntyre's double-award winning team: Expert by Experience Jess Hiles, MacIntyre’s Best Practice Manager Nicola Payne and Freelance Consultant and Trainer Beth Britton MBE.
They will guide a highly interactive workshop which focuses on how to support someone with a learning disability who might be developing dementia, as well as what best practice in support looks like, including as dementia advances.
The course, which runs over two half-day (four hour) sessions delivered two weeks apart training covers:
- Different types of dementia, the symptoms and how to support someone developing dementia
- How to support someone when there are changes due to dementia?
- How to support someone to stay independent, and continue having choice and control
- Thinking about what the future might look like and how to prepare for advancing dementia?
