At the beginning of the month, we shone a spotlight on our fantastic staff at the Marjorie Newton Wright Awards 2019. Today, we are sharing the success of our Best Frontline Employee 2019 in our Children and Young People Services.
Our winner has made a name for himself across MacIntyre due to his creativity, ingenious thinking and generosity towards the young people he supports.
Winner - Christopher Mellor, No Limits, Midlands
For the judges, Chris' dedication and imagination stood out by far. After getting to know the learner and his interest in cartoon characters, Chris exercised his talent for drawing by creating personalised learning resources, featuring the characters the young man adored.
The judges were impressed by this and Chris’ ability to use the cartoons that he loved to help him make sense of his emotions and the world around him.
This has led to this young man, in particular, being able to make a massive contribution to his community, raising money for charity and litter picking.
It's fantastic that Chris, and other Community Learning Facilitators like him, are so keen to learn about what interests the young people we support, in order to connect, motivate and teach them the skills they need to succeed.
Chris’ colleagues said:
‘Chris has made such a difference to this young man’s life. He dedicates hours to creating personally tailored resources for a young man that helps him to access his learning. He does this in his own time and never accepts recognition for the work he does. He does it because he wants to.”
Congratulations to Chris and all of our fantastic nominees!
