Creating Calm at Christmas: A Supportive Space for Autistic People #ConnectAtChristmas

3 December 2024
News

Christmas time can sometimes be stressful with a lot going on around us. Jess who is an Advocate Lead at MacIntyre and hosts the monthly Autistic Network Group kindly shares some insight and invites anyone who feels they would benefit to the next connect session which will be on Thursday 5th December, 1:00pm - 2:00pm. More information to the event or to sign up here.

A couple examples of challenges that come to mind are feeling pressure to eat Christmas food which a person might really dislike. There is also the social pressure that comes from trying to give the 'correct' kind of reaction to opening presents. This performative happiness and doing it in the 'right' way can be consistent throughout the Christmas period. Having lots of people come to your house that you aren't super familiar with and needing to make small talk with them can be very stressful too.

The network is an Autistic safe and supportive space. Any Autistic person can come along and talk about the challenges they're facing, there is always space for that!

#ConnectAtChristmas with MacIntyre. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
