I feel an immense pride working for MacIntyre

30 September 2020
News

Think you need experience in social care to join MacIntyre? Think again.

Matthew had never envisioned he would have a role in social care, but after years of carving a career in the financial sector he needed a new focus.

"I am a qualified financial advisor. After providing face to face advice for some years, I became an area manager within the bank. After negotiating through several redundancies, a friend of mine suggested I take some time out of banking and try something different."

With the encouragement of a close friend, Matthew embarked on a complete career transformation and found himself supporting people with learning disabilities.

Speaking about his start in social care, Matthew added:

"I loved the work. The people I worked with were so dedicated and passionate and the people I supported were full of life and had great stories to share."

But when a Frontline Manager position became available at MacIntyre, Matthew knew this was the right opportunity for him.

"It seemed like a perfect match; a social care position with management responsibilities. I had to apply and find out more. I was thrilled to be offered the job a couple of weeks later."

He continued:

"I soon realised that I was working for an organisation that had so many opportunities and was doing so many great things. Having now settled into the job, I feel an immense pride working for MacIntyre. I am proud to tell my former banking colleagues what I do now, that I don’t just have a new job, but a totally new career path and vocation. I am proud to tell my family and friends what I do, I feel real joy spending time with the people I support and value the responsibility placed upon me. I am continually impressed and amazed by the great staff I have in my service.”

Could you join our team and change the lives of people with learning disabilities and/or autism? For us, experience in social care isn't always necessary, as long as you share our values and are ready to learn, we will teach you everything you need to know.
