A mermaid with a colourful, textured tail and a collection of sea creature friends has been making waves in Stockingford, Nuneaton!
The mermaid was created by learners at MacIntyre No Limits Midlands for the annual Stockingford Scarecrow Trail, organised by a local church. Each year, residents, businesses, schools and community groups are invited to make scarecrows based on a different theme.
This year's theme was Waves Above and Wonders Below, which gave the learners plenty of scope to get creative.
They decided to make a sensory-inspired mermaid, incorporating different textures and materials. Her tail was made from the learners' own artwork and textured items they particularly enjoyed.
Everyone contributed in some way, whether making the papier-mâché head, stuffing tentacles, creating scales, decorating the mermaid's top or heading out to choose the perfect wig.
Once finished, the mermaid and her underwater friends took their place on the trail, ready for local people to discover them.
And there was more good news to come! The learners' creation won third place in the competition, earning them a certificate and a trophy for No Limits Midlands.
A wonderful example of people coming together, sharing their creativity and playing an active part in their local community.
