This Black History Month, people at MacIntyre have been reflecting on what their African heritage means to them, and sharing their experiences, perspectives and stories.
Those reflections build on our recent collaboration with St Albans Museum, which brought together people we support and MacIntyre staff through creativity, arts and crafts.
The museum provided a welcoming space for people to express themselves, try something new and connect with others. It also created an opportunity for people to share something of who they are – their identities, experiences, cultures and the things that matter to them.
For the MacIntyre staff involved in this Black History Month project, that sense of connection has continued. Their reflections show the importance of having space to celebrate African heritage, share different perspectives and learn from one another.
It's another example of what can happen when people come together in their local community: creativity becomes a way to connect, stories are shared, and everyone has something to contribute.
