The Malvern Challenge for MacIntyre

12 June 2018
News

It’s National Bike Week this week so we thought it was a good time to share some great news about a team who have been fundraising for an adapted bike.

In May a group of colleagues from MacIntyre at Waring Close in Leicester completed a sponsored walk in the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire. The Malvern Challenge is usually 9.4 miles but the team decided to walk back too, a total of 18.8 miles, which they aimed to complete within 10 hours.

The adapted bike, suitable for people who use wheelchairs, costs in the region of £4500. The group raised over £450 which will be added to the totals raised from a number of other fundraising activities that the team at Waring Close have been undertaking.

Leanne Baxter who organised the challenge said:

“Normally the Malvern Challenge would be 9.4 miles end to end but we decided to walk back as well, because we could - or so we thought! We started at 9am. It was tough, REALLY tough in some parts...but we did it!! We all felt sick at some point, all our feet hurt, all of us were tired. We got to the end at 2.30pm, sat for 30 minutes then made our way back, we finally got back about 7pm. We were really pleased that we smashed our fundraising target!”

A big thank you from us all!
