When I started working at MacIntyre I was encouraged to think about the things I am passionate about and the people I know locally. I am a big cricket fan and have been involved with cricket for several years. Getting to know some of the people who draw on our support I found that there were some other keen cricket fans.
I also know someone who works in the local Brampton brewery. It’s a great local business and they are well connected locally. I arranged for us to have a tour at the brewery to find out more about how they make beer and the process. I also said if there was anything we could do to help in the future to let us know. They mentioned that they would be at the Chesterfield Festival of Cricket held in Queens Park – right next to one of our learning hubs. That it’s a busy day and they would love us to come and help them give out information, collect glasses and make sure people felt welcome and had a good day.
So back in July, off we went, and it was one of the hottest days of the year! We gave out programmes and had some banter with the people there. Everyone was thirsty so we were in the right place with the beer tent! We met people from all over the country some who came to Chesterfield every year to enjoy the cricket and some who ended up spending the day chatting with us. The atmosphere was amazing, several thousand people, and we were all buzzing. We also connected with the Friends of Queens Park and looking forward to doing things with them in the future.
It was great to be part of something that people love, to meet new people and make connections. And also to help the Festival organisers and our friends at the brewery – we know this partnership will go from strength to strength!
