Connection and recruitment

13 March 2025
Blog post

by Jaydon Snelus, Recruitment Coordinator

MacIntyre’s recruitment team focuses on building community connections as part of our way of working. At the same time as we’re making new connections in 2025, we’ve been reflecting on the stand-out moments from the end of last year.

Recruitment, Retention and Recognition

We’re proud to share that MacIntyre’s recruitment team was Highly Commended at The Great British Care Awards in Brighton on Friday, 15 November 2024. Nominated for the Three R’s Award for Recruitment, Retention, and Recognition, this acknowledgment highlights the dedication, creativity, and impact of our team. While we didn’t win the award, this achievement reflects the success of our efforts in building a stronger recruitment strategy through local networking and innovative approaches.

Local communities

Engaging with local communities has been key to our success. By attending events, building relationships, and maintaining visibility in the areas we support, we have successfully attracted candidates who share our values and passion for making a difference.

For example in Oxford, these efforts have resulted in reduced vacancy levels and stronger recruitment outcomes. Partnerships with local universities and colleges are helping us build a future talent pipeline, addressing the challenges of an ageing workforce and inspiring the next generation to join the social care sector.

A standout example of our community engagement is our partnership with Pablo Lounge in Abingdon town centre. They have generously hosted MacIntyre events, such as stands in their café to engage with customers and raise awareness about who we are and what we do. They have also invited us to participate in their activities, such as acting as quiz master for a quiz night, which brought the community together and raised funds for MacIntyre. Through this partnership, we’ve also connected with other local organisations like Dyslexia Abingdon, creating even more opportunities for collaboration and engagement.

Critical success factors

These efforts are closely aligned with MacIntyre’s five Critical Success Factors:

  1. Reducing vacancy levels to below 10%
  2. Growing our relief staff pool
  3. Enhancing the candidate experience
  4. Reducing agency spend, and
  5. Improving staff retention.

By creating meaningful community connections, we are tackling these priorities head-on and ensuring our recruitment strategies deliver lasting impact.

Involving everyone

An important aspect of our community work is involving the people we support. Their participation in local events and activities reflects inclusion, raises awareness, and showcases the values that MacIntyre stands for.
