Emergency Alert Notification on Sunday

17 April 2023
News

The Government will test a new emergency alert notification on Sunday 23 April at 3pm.

This alert is a push notification that will pop up on your smart phone along with a loud siren-like noise, vibration and/or reading the notification aloud.

Some people may not be aware of the test. Some people with a learning disability may struggle to understand what the test is for. The alert might be disconcerting for people who are not prepared, so MacIntyre have put together an Easy Read document. You can download it from this news item.

The Easy Read document will help people understand about the alert, and provide a prompt to discuss it. This information will help people understand the alerts, when they will be used, and what to expect.

Do share this information with anyone who would find it helpful.

The Easy Read document explains about the alert, what it means and what it will be like.

The Bitesize Information explains more of the background. It also includes a link to a video from the charity Refuge, covering how to turn off alerts for people in abusive relationships who may have a hidden phone their partner is unaware of.
