At No Limits, we support young people to explore different experiences and environments at a pace that works for them, helping them discover their interests and take their first steps towards the world of work.
For Hadeesah, from Buckinghamshire, we noticed that traditional classroom-based learning could sometimes be challenging. She seemed happiest when she was out in the community, doing something practical and purposeful. Most importantly, she wanted to help others.
As part of her journey, Hadeesah joined a group work experience taster session at a food hub in High Wycombe. The hub is set up like a supermarket, with food, clothing, stationery and toiletries, giving visitors a realistic shopping experience. Alongside other learners, Hadeesah took on a range of shop-floor tasks and began to explore what working in a retail environment might be like.
After the session, we worked with Hadeesah to think about what she would like to do next. Using personalised resources to help her consider different options, it quickly became clear that she wanted to try a work placement of her own, and she was very enthusiastic about the idea of working in a shop.
Hadeesah has now started volunteering at the Sue Ryder charity shop in High Wycombe. She's already making a great impression, helping to organise coat hangers and size markers and keeping the team updated on the tasks she has completed.
Hadeesah is showing us that she learns best when she can see the purpose behind what she's doing and feel that she's making a contribution. Through her volunteering role, she's building confidence, developing new skills and taking important steps towards her dream of future vocational and paid employment opportunities.
