Anthony spent 11 years in a secure hospital. He now shares his story with MacIntyre staff as part of their induction process. He says:
“I moved into my new bungalow in 2022 and have been loving it ever since. I can go bike riding to different areas and have the freedom to cook and bake whenever I want, including cooking and baking my own choice of meals and cake. I’m so happy I’ve got my life back again.”
Andrew’s family were told he would never speak more than six words. Andrew now asks for medication when he is in pain. He enjoys singing and has even joined a choir. He has a great sense of humour, joking and laughing with his staff. Having not been home for 21 years, Andrew now visits once a month to spend time with his parents. Andrew’s parents have also seen the change in Andrew, stating that
‘Staff are wonderful and so caring for Andrew, we honestly couldn’t have asked for better.’
Jake had spent 20 of his 35 years living in a hospital. In his first two months of living in his home he’s been getting to know his neighbours, including when he went ‘Trick or Treating’ at Halloween; indulging his passion for model cars and establishing weekly video calls with his mum
We are delighted to launch our new Homes Not Hospitals offer which includes more details about the difference we can make to people’s lives and sets out how MacIntyre is working with commissioners and partners to support people to live in Homes Not Hospitals.
One parent told us:
“We have always felt part of the MacIntyre family in Greater Manchester and feel appreciated and respected. MacIntyre value family history and experience and we always make best interest decisions for our son together.”
And from a commissioner’s perspective, Fiona Charnock, Adult Social Care Transformation, NHS Greater Manchester, said:
“MacIntyre’s operational management approach is consistently engaged with the advice of clinicians, especially in terms of positive behavioural support; person-centred and attentive to people’s needs and preferences; and realistically attuned to the expectations of health and social care commissioners.”
