I’ve found my balance – and that’s why I’ve stayed.
Shurma Bibi joined MacIntyre in 2016 and is now a Senior Support Worker in Milton Keynes. For her, it’s more than just a job, it’s a balance between personal fulfilment, professional growth, and genuine connection.
I’ve been working as a Senior for a long time now, and one of the main reasons I’ve remained in this position is because I’ve found a great balance. I genuinely love what I do, which makes my work fulfilling and enjoyable.
Shurma joined us from a traditional 9 - 5 office role. She began her MacIntyre career at our School in Wingrave. This gave her valuable insight into different aspects of MacIntyre as an organisation, allowing her to build a broad range of skills and experience.
Over the years, Shurma has built meaningful relationships with the people she supports, each with their own unique personality, routines, and sense of humour. Seeing their excitement and progress when the activities she plans come to life is what motivates her most.
It’s incredibly rewarding to see their progress and excitement when the activities I plan come to life.
As a Senior Support Worker, Shurma’s days are full of variety. She supports her team, leads by example, and ensures every shift runs smoothly. From mentoring new staff and overseeing day-to-day support needs to handling key administrative tasks, her role keeps her engaged and constantly learning.
Through this role, I’ve developed a wide range of skills — from supervising and training staff to managing day-to-day support needs and administrative responsibilities. I enjoy variety in my work, and this position offers exactly that.
Shurma also values the guidance and encouragement she’s received from local management, which has helped her grow in confidence and leadership.
As a Senior, I work closely with the Deputy and Frontline Manager, both of whom have been great sources of encouragement and support in my professional development.
What Shurma enjoys most is being a mentor — someone her team can turn to for advice and support.
I take pride in being a mentor to my staff team and collaborating with management to ensure we provide the highest quality of support to the people who draw on our support.
For anyone considering a step up, Shurma’s message is simple:
If you enjoy supporting others, want to build your skills, and like variety in your day, being a Senior is a role where you can truly make a difference and see the impact every single day.
We asked Shurma what she does outside of work:
Well, how long have you got? When I’m not running around after my five-year-old son, I love anything beauty-related. Bridal make-up and hair styling are real passions of mine, I absolutely love transforming brides for their big day.
I’m also currently strength-training obsessed, so whenever I get a moment to myself you’ll probably find me lifting weights.
And then there’s food! I love both cooking and eating different cuisines. I’ve travelled quite a bit and have enjoyed exploring a wide range of flavours.
When I’m not doing any of that, I enjoy Bollywood dancing, sports, and nature walks… the list could go on!
