Picking the Perfect Pumpkin

30 October 2019
News

When you think of Halloween, there might be a few things that come to mind. Ghosts, goblins, pumpkins and...mud? For Maria and Chloe* from Wrexham in Wales, popping into their local pumpkin farm turned into a day they won't forget.

When staff members Nikita and Maudie, suggested the idea of picking the perfect pumpkin in time for Halloween, Maria and Chloe jumped at the chance. Yet, there was one problem; between Maria, Chloe, Nikita and Maudie and their perfect pumpkin, stood a layer of thick, soggy mud.

Unprepared but determined not to be defeated, the ladies waded through, with one thing on their mind: to find the biggest, plumpest pumpkin of all.

Reflecting on the day, Maudie shared:

"Nikita and Chloe collected a wheelbarrow and Maria held onto my arm to try and avoid falling over! We stopped and looked at a lot of pumpkins; some too small, some too bumpy and even some that were green and warty, which Maria thought were very funny! We chose our four and off we went back through all the mud."

After paying for the pumpkins, the group made their way back to the car, only to meet a farmer along the way; warning them of the mud.

Maudie continued:

'Not a problem we will be fine' we said..... famous last words!"Half way through the field, our car came to a sudden stop. We were stuck! 'Uh oh what are we going to do now?' asked Maria. Within minutes the farmer came over in his 4x4 to rescue us. He tied us up and towed us out the field. Maria and Chloe found it all very funny....so did myself and Nikita, tears flowing down our faces. We laughed all the way home."
