One of my neighbours in Milton Keynes recently moved into a care home. When I went to visit her, I met the manager, explained my role and asked if there was anything we could help with. He said the people living there would love to meet new people and try something different, so we arranged for a group from the learning centre to come in and spend some time together.
We’d run a session painting stones before and everyone had enjoyed it, so we decided to do that again. On the day, three people we support, Ian, Wilson and Sui, came along to meet fourteen of the older residents and explain the activity. We brought some examples of pictures, patterns and words to spark ideas.
Before long everyone was getting creative, chatting and sharing stories as they painted.
We took the stones away afterwards to varnish them, and we’ll be bringing them back soon so people can place them around the area: little splashes of colour and kindness for others to discover.
