Season 6, Episode 3
Beth Britton on dementia, lived experience and shaping better support
We’ve just released a new podcast episode featuring dementia campaigner, writer and long-time collaborator Beth Britton.
Beth shares how her father’s 19-year experience of vascular dementia shaped her life and career, beginning in her teenage years and continuing through her early adulthood. That lived experience led her to become a leading voice in dementia care, working across the sector and with government, while maintaining a close relationship with MacIntyre since 2013.
In the episode, Beth reflects on more than a decade of partnership with MacIntyre, from visiting over 30 services to supporting our Dementia Special Interest Group, and explains why MacIntyre is recognised as a sector leader in learning disability and dementia.
The conversation also explores:
- The link between learning disability, Down syndrome and dementia
- Why good environments and communication approaches matter so much
- The co-design of award-winning bereavement training with people with lived experience
- A new, in-depth dementia course currently being developed with ARC England
Beth also discusses her recent MBE, awarded for services to people with dementia and their carers, and what continues to motivate her work.
Listen to the full episode to hear practical insights, personal reflections, and a clear vision for improving support across the sector.
