Anyone who has moved into a new house knows it can take time for a house to feel like a home and adding your own personal touches can make all the difference.
Harry* and John are two gentlemen supported by MacIntyre who recently moved to new homes. Whilst Harry valued space and spending time alone, John, although naturally reserved, voiced his interest in having a housemate.
Finding a home that was the perfect fit for Harry was vital, as his needs had changed in recent months. Now requiring one to one support, Harry's home needed to be somewhere he could feel comfortable and empowered.
In his previous house, Harry was reserved and would spend a large amount of time in his bedroom upstairs. Working with Harry, the team identified that he wanted to live in a bungalow.
From the moment Harry chose his new home, the team quickly got stuck into supporting him to choose how his new home would look and feel, from curtains to paint, to how his furniture would be arranged...and Harry loved every minute.
This fresh start for Harry came with some unexpected changes, including his enthusiasm for meeting new people in his local neighbourhood and taking up new hobbies.
As for John, finding a housemate was key to his happiness. Our team in Shropshire worked closely with John and his family to match him with a housemate with shared interests and someone who understood John's need for downtime after socialising.
Speaking about the progress made by John and Harry, the team said:
"It has been wonderful to see a change and have both men get so actively involved in their local neighbourhoods. Every time I think about it, I smile. We are all so proud of them both."
