The Berriman family have been key to everything MacIntyre has achieved since our small beginnings 60 years ago.
Sir David Berriman worked with our founders, Ken and Marjorie Newton Wright, to raise the money to start our very first school, and became our founder Trustee.
Sir David’s son James was one of the first people to be supported by MacIntyre, and James’s brother John later became Chair of Trustees until he retired in 2024.
So it was only natural that when we received generous donations to build a new sensory space for people living with dementia, we would call it The Berriman Pod.
A special space, the Pod offers people living with dementia a calm, sensory-rich experience in a beautiful environment adjacent to the flats in Milton Keynes, where James now lives.
The Berriman Pod was opened in February by John Berriman, who spoke during a handy 15-minute break from the relentless rain we’ve been having! There were purple balloons, there was special 60th anniversary cake, there were speeches and hugs. And most importantly there was a gentle new space for people supported by MacIntyre who are living with dementia.
