Towards the end of last year, I saw on an advert on Kennington Connected. A local man, Martin Claridge who was asking for toy donations. Every year he runs a Christmas lights display and all proceeds go to Sobell House, a local hospice.
We wanted to see what we could do to join in so we contacted him and asked if we could help.
People who draw on support in Kennington run a Pop-up Shop every fortnight. We wanted to use some of the donations to give to this cause. We gathered together, sorted through and tidied up the toys in our Pop-up Shop. We chose ones that we thought would bring some joy to children and it made us really happy to think about this.
We arranged a time to meet Martin and donated the toys. It was lovely to be able to help others and think about how it could make someone’s day. Martin invited us all to come and see the display and be part of the fun.
Our Pop-up shop is continuing this year and we are turning it into a public living room and community café where people can come and spend time in a warm space, have a cuppa and a shop.
We're hoping to meet more people locally and find out more ways to help!
