by Colin Burrell, Support Worker
I would like you all to meet Jac, who lives in Birkenhead. He loves to volunteer his time as and when he can, he enjoys all forms of transport no matter how big or small. So we got in touch with Neo community.
We have already heard about Neo who do some great work in the community. Part of this is that they run an affordable food pantry and café. Volunteers go out in vans and collect surplus food around the Wirral, anything that’s destined for landfill. They bring it back to the community hub and make affordable lunches that are served from the café and the remaining food goes into the community shop so local people can buy the products at a reduced price.
Jac is willing and ready to work so we went and spoke to the team about volunteering as a driver's mate going out in the van and helping to load and unload the food deliveries.
Jac now goes out twice a week with volunteer drivers, saving food waste and helping stretch people's budgets. He has already made a good impression by always turning up and putting the work in.
We all wish Jac the best in his volunteer journey.
