Poly pharmacy is the term used when a person is taking four or more medications. This is often common for a person with a learning disability as the person is more likely to have complex health conditions.
Working alongside Beth Britton, our Health Team began to put together a short guide for tackling poly pharmacy. This resource also supports the national STOMP campaign: Stop the Over Medication of People with a Learning Disability, Autism or both. The purpose of the resource is to raise awareness of poly pharmacy and to take accountability and responsibility as staff members to take action against poly pharmacy.
The resource goes on to give advice for staff in social care on what to do if a person is on more than four medications; and the importance of advocating alongside the person.
