The MacIntyre Memory Café in Milton Keynes has become a hub for the local community each month, providing a safe space for families, people we support and people with dementia to meet and share their experiences over a cup of coffee.
The café is run by Sadie Scott, Area Manager for MacIntyre in Milton Keynes and Nicola Payne, MacIntyre's Family Engagement Consultant, with the help of Lynda, Martha, Jamie and Bob, a fantastic team of volunteers.
Nicola Payne shares the impact that the team of volunteers have had on the café.
"Without this team of people, we really couldn’t run our Memory Café in Milton Keynes. The team never let us down, always arriving with such energy and enthusiasm. Each volunteer has their own jobs which have just naturally happened over the years and if one of the team is missing, it is so noticeable! You will see Sadie or myself running around in panic! We can’t run it without them all.
So far the team have committed four years of volunteering and our local customers have grown to expect to see Lynda, Martha, Jamie and Bob most months. They see the team as people they can chat to and offload thoughts and worries to, laugh with, or just have a cup of tea and watch the world go by with.
The team go above and beyond throughout the year planning sessions, booking external workshops and being part of team meetings.
A huge big thank you to all! You’re all amazing."
