David volunteered in March at the Ukrainian support centre in his local shopping centre for almost a week, some days being twelve hours long! The Fireman in charge of the support centre mentioned that David had been fantastic whilst helping out.
We asked David what he was responsible for, what made him want to volunteer and if he had a message he would like to share with others at MacIntyre.
David’s response was:
I wanted to do something to help. I saw the poster advertised on the window, went in and asked if I could help them. I felt sorry for the people who have lost their homes.
He added:
I was responsible for welcoming people, taking anything they had brought in including money donations, sorting through clothes and other items into their area ready for packing up, sorting torches and adding batteries. When the lorry came I helped with some of the loading. I worked for six days, some for twelve hours, and I feel very proud to have helped. If you have any opportunity to get involved please do to help those who have been made homeless because of Putin.
