It's Volunteers Week, so we are shining a spotlight on one of our fantastic volunteers, Barbara Padley, Finance Assistant at MacIntyre.
This September, Barbara will be celebrating 33 years volunteering for Rainbows and Brownies. Barbara’s voluntary work began as an assistant for her daughter’s Brownies group, after the leader of the group retired. After a successful year, Barbara became the new leader, taking on the role alongside her Sunday school teaching duties.
When discussing her role as a leader, Barbara mentioned:
“I really enjoy seeing the children progress throughout this journey. Starting off with shy personalities and seeing them develop and grow in confidence puts a smile on my face. I’m just glad I was able to make some sort of contribution.”
She added:
“Being part of the Guiding is like being part of a family, the children learn that it’s good to help people and that doing things together is easier and fun. It’s not school and they don’t realise that they are learning from their peers, they think they are just having fun.”
