MacIntyre has always looked to support students as they journey into adulthood, so we were thrilled to welcome back Daniel, a former student at MacIntyre School, more than 20 years later.
After completing his studies, and living in Hampshire, Daniel's parents were keen for him to be closer to their home in Buckinghamshire. Recalling how much he had enjoyed his time at school, they reached out to MacIntyre.
After meeting with Sara Parkinson, who is responsible for supporting people to move in with MacIntyre, they discussed the available options for Daniel.
Sara said:
“I met Daniel’s parents at our Coffee Shop in Milton Keynes where we talked about Daniel and they brought along some pictures of him when he was at MacIntyre School. It was really lovely to be remembered after all these years, and we discussed how we could support Daniel; Daniel is such a lovely man and thought that MacIntyre would be a really good fit for him.
We arranged a couple of visits and meetings between his parents and the team manager in Milton Keynes. Daniel’s parents loved his potential new home, and pushed the local council for MacIntyre to support him.
With less than 10 days until he had to move out, it was agreed he could move into his new home in Milton Keynes. The local manager, Roxanne, visited Daniel during this time to get to know how he liked being supported, and we quickly formed a plan to help him move.
We worked closely with Daniel, his family and his previous support team, who would come with Daniel for the first couple of days to help him feel safe and familiar, to make his move as seamless as possible. A few days before the move, Daniel wanted to spend a couple of nights to help him settle, which he and his family absolutely loved, and he was so excited to move.
The move went very well and, nine months on, Daniel is thriving. He is very comfortable in Milton Keynes and seems like he has lived there for years! He gets on well with his team and his housemates who have found out how incredibly kind and thoughtful Daniel is, and how much he looks out for his housemates. On a recent visit to the Land of Lights he guided one of his housemates, who has problems with their eyesight, around and offered them reassurance when they needed it.
Daniel has been able to pick some of his favourite hobbies back up, like going on trains and going to the cinema. Daniel has his own favourite spots in the house including the swing seat in the garden and his very own puzzle table with a comfy chair in the lounge. Daniel is a helpful and considerate man who loves to help around the house; he particularly enjoys helping with the cooking and doing his own washing.
We’re delighted to welcome you back to MacIntyre, Daniel, and we’re excited to see what the next chapter will bring you.
