At MacIntyre, Transforming Care is all about supporting people out of long-stay hospitals and into homes of their own.
We sat down with Laura Selby Head of Operations and Transforming Care Lead to discuss how we are supporting people to live full lives and maintain relationships within their community, after living in long-stay hospitals.
Sharing her thoughts, Laura said:
"Our Transforming Care programme is based on the assumption that children, young people and adults with a learning disability and/or autism with behaviours described as challenging, have the right to live satisfying and valued lives, and to be treated with dignity and respect.
They should have a home within their community, be able to develop and maintain relationships and get the support they need for a life that is healthy, safe and rewarding.
Within Maclntyre we have successfully supported many people to move from long-stay hospitals into their new homes in the community. Although this has been complex and challenging, the teams have worked so hard to make each transition as person-centred as possible.
I am really excited about the future and to continue the work we will be undertaking. Person by person we are making a real difference and changing people’s lives for the better."
