A growing friendship

9 January 2026
News

Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen the friendship between Jamie and Sandra, his neighbour, who live in Greater Manchester, grow into something really special. Sandra, Jamie’s neighbour, has become a familiar and much loved part of his life, spending time together, sharing food, having a brew, and enjoying each other’s company. More recently Andy, who lives nearby, has met Sandra, strengthening that circle of friendship even further.

This Christmas, the plan was for Jamie, Sandra and Andy, along with two staff members, to head out for a three-course Christmas lunch at a local pub. A chance to relax, enjoy good food and best of all no washing-up. Unfortunately, Sandra became unwell and was admitted to hospital, meaning she couldn’t join them on the day.

Andy and Jamie decided they would still go along, making sure to send Sandra photos and messages to let her know they were thinking of her and wishing her a speedy recovery

Just before New Year, Sandra was discharged from hospital. To celebrate, she chose to spend New Year’s Eve with Jamie and Andy. The evening was simple but full of warmth, a takeaway, a few beers, films, and plenty of karaoke. Although Sandra wasn’t up for having her photo taken after just coming out of hospital, she shared that "the boys" had truly made her year.

A lovely reminder of how genuine friendships, kindness and thoughtfulness can mean so much in our communities.
